From Lab Assistant to Medical Laboratory Technician II, Audrey Fernandez carved a deliberate path toward a more technical role in healthcare—without direct patient care. After beginning as a phlebotomist, she continued working full-time while earning her associate’s degree online and completing lab rotations at DLS. Audrey now works behind the scenes helping ensure accurate results and life-saving blood products reach patients. She’s passionate about the instrumentation, the impact, and the sense of community DLS fosters through events and employee recognition.

Supervisor, Medical Technologist, Microbiology

Amanda Duke began her DLS career as a Laboratory Assistant shortly after moving to Hawai‘i, and quickly discovered her passion for clinical laboratory science. With strong support from her team, she advanced through Microbiology, earned her Medical Technologist certification and eventually stepped into leadership. Today, she finds purpose in meaningful work and the compassionate team that surrounds her.

A chance glimpse of a newly lit DLS building during winter break sparked what would become a thriving multi-role career. Starting in Accessioning and Processing, Justin quickly expanded into compliance and risk management, fleet logistics, and then facility operations. Today, as Assistant Manager of Facility Operations, he plays a vital behind-the-scenes role in keeping labs and clinics safe, functional, and responsive.

Joyce Iwata knew she wanted a career in medical technology from early on, and sought DLS right out of college. After more than two decades in the field, and a variety of roles within the company, she’s been able to grow her skills and confidence—and master new technologies thanks to DLS’ commitment to innovation.

Supervisor, Training, Development & Outreach

When Angela Hose took a Microbiology class in college, she discovered a deep passion for the science of microorganisms. She had found her calling and set a course for her dream job. Now, nearly 30 years later after serving as a Technical Laboratory Assistant (TLA) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), she’s inspiring students as an MLT Trainer, where she enjoys a mentorship role and countless opportunities to grow and learn.

James Magata never thought he would end up in the field of medical technology, but after joining the DLS team, he can’t imagine working anywhere else. With a network of talented staff to learn from and a management philosophy of constant support, DLS is helping James achieve his professional goals and face each day with a strong sense of purpose.

Tori Enomoto

Manager, Microbiolgy

Tori Enomoto took a lab assistant position with DLS right after college, thinking it might be a temporary step. Thanks to her hard work, support from DLS and several windows of opportunity, she was able to parlay her support position into a leadership role as Manager for the Microbiology Lab in just a few years. Today, she enjoys an exciting job where she gets to apply critical thinking, work with state-of-the art technology and guide others in expanding their knowledge.
