Why I Chose a Career at DLS
by Brandon Quintal, Senior Laboratory Assistant – Phleb Certified
I’ve always been fascinated by the healthcare industry. There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping people, and as a phlebotomist, I get to be at the very start of a patient’s healthcare journey. Knowing that the samples I collect play a crucial role in their diagnosis and treatment makes my work meaningful.
I chose to join Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS) in April 2021 because I heard it was a great company to work for—and that turned out to be absolutely true. Over the past few years, I’ve been able to grow professionally while doing work I love. I started as a float phlebotomist, became phlebotomy certified in November 2023, progressed to Laboratory Assistant II in December 2023, and was promoted to Senior Laboratory Assistant for the East Region in July 2024. DLS has given me the opportunity to advance in my career while continuing to make a difference in patient care.

One of the things I love most about working at DLS is the opportunity to meet so many different people. Whether it’s connecting with patients and brightening their day or building friendships with colleagues across Oahu, the sense of community here is amazing. As a float phlebotomist, I work at multiple Patient Service Centers (PSCs), which allowed me to interact with employees across the company and form strong bonds with my team.
Beyond the personal connections, I take pride in knowing that my work directly impacts patient care. By ensuring each sample is collected safely and accurately, I’m contributing to the larger process of helping patients get the medical attention they need. That sense of purpose is what keeps me motivated every day.
The work at DLS is fulfilling, the people are fun and supportive, and there are real opportunities for growth. If you’re looking for a place where you can build a career, make meaningful connections, and truly make a difference—DLS is the place to be.
